GUIDE TO IMPLANT-SUPPORTED REHABILITATION OF THE ATROPHIC POSTERIOR MAXILLA

Implant-supported rehabilitation of the edentulous posterior maxilla often presents issues related to the limited vertical dimension and low density of the residual crestal bone. However, thanks to advancements in modern implantology techniques, it is now possible to both place implants in the limited bone volume available and use regenerative techniques to recover lost bone. This book provides an in-depth analysis of the treatment plan and the various surgical and prosthetic options available: each chapter contains detailed information, based on the latest scientific evidence, on the diagnostic and therapeutic steps needed to achieve and maintain optimal clinical outcomes over time. The minimally invasive options such as using short or tilted implants are thoroughly addressed, providing practical surgical and prosthetic tips that can contribute positively to a favorable prognosis. Step-by-step surgical techniques for maxillary sinus floor elevation using lateral and transcrestal approaches are also described, presenting a biological rationale to assist clinicians in choosing between different surgical approaches and biomaterials that can be used in this clinical procedure, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the various types available.
