Perfecting Dressage: A Guide to Collection, Impulsion, and Harmony

This guide offers a structured approach to the art of dressage, focusing on the development of harmony between horse and rider. It details the fundamentals of classical dressage, beginning with the precise application of riding aids. The content explores the nuanced coordination of leg, weight, and rein aids to establish a correct and consistent contact.
A significant portion is dedicated to the systematic training of the horse following the principles of the training scale. This includes establishing rhythm, suppleness, and contact, progressing towards the development of collection and impulsion, as well as straightness. The book provides insights into activating the horse’s hindquarters to enhance movement and balance.
Readers will find guidance on executing dressage movements with precision within the arena. The text covers the accurate riding of figures using the arena letters, the correct lines for lateral movements, and the execution of more advanced lessons such as the half pass. Furthermore, it addresses the proper use and fitting of equipment, including the bridle and saddle, and discusses the transition to the double bridle.
The final sections are oriented towards competitive equestrian sports, offering strategies for preparing for and participating in dressage tests. This includes analyzing test requirements, structuring a training plan, and understanding the process on the day of the competition. The guide also touches upon the standards of FEI levels and the interpretation of judges’ scoresheets, making it a resource for riders aiming to progress in their horse training and competition journey.
