Systemic Board Work: Visual Mapping for Coaching & Counseling

This book provides a comprehensive guide to systemic board work, presenting the constellation board as a powerful, solution-focused coaching tool. Readers will learn the fundamental principles for practical application, from the selection and design of the systemic board and its figures to establishing a conducive environment and a solution-focused mindset.
The text details the entire process of conducting systemic constellations, beginning with clarifying the client’s objective. It covers the techniques of visual mapping, where clients arrange an initial representation of their system, and the subsequent analysis of positions and perspectives. The book offers insights into process guidance, the use of systemic questioning techniques, and working with both overt and covert constellations. A central focus is on collaboratively developing a solution-oriented approach by experimentally repositioning elements and anchoring concrete next steps.
Furthermore, the application of the constellation board in various professional contexts is explored. This includes its use in therapy for classic family constellations and addressing internal conflicts, employing specific therapy techniques. In systemic coaching, the board serves as a coaching tool for decision-making, clarifying professional roles, and visualizing career paths. For organizational contexts, the book explains how to analyze team dynamics, conduct organizational constellations, and facilitate change processes.
The final sections are dedicated to integrating the insights gained. Topics include applying insights to daily practice and the importance of reflective practice for the facilitator. This covers self-reflection on one’s own role, handling hypotheses, and adhering to professional boundaries. It also discusses methodological extensions, such as combining the systemic board with other creative methods and integrating it into group settings.
